Leaving Muscatine and beginning the new part of this journey, “Self supported” is the term for on your own, Took me till almost 1:00 PM. Not exactly prime starting time, but things had to be done before I could leave. I made it as far as Davenport and decided to take advantage of an offer from friends I had met riding across Iowa and spent the night with Randy and Pauline . Also Rupert and Taco their sweet puppies.
Leaving Davenport at a better hour I rode up the Mississippi River as far as Savanna. A local biker get together town, all the other bikes had motors and they were kind to me and my underpowered steed. The ride up the Great River Trail in Illinois was scenic and 90% off-road, only short connectors were shared road with back streets. Truly great trail for my tour flat, scenic and no traffic to dodge.
The next days ride to Freeport was work. Hot , 94 degrees, hilly , but mainly backroads and beautiful farmlands. Freeport is the Trailhead of the Jane Addams Trail which connects to the Badger State Trail that will take me into Madison WI.
